What is reported

The Christian schools of Jerusalem suspended classes on 1 September 2026 because more than 70 teachers and staff had not had their entry permits renewed, affecting more than 8,500 pupils. The strike, announced as open-ended, was lifted after a single day: since the Israeli authorities had renewed some of the permits, the schools reopened and welcomed pupils on 2 September 2026. The lasting element is not the closure but an earlier decision: a letter from the Israeli Ministry of Education dated 10 March 2026 states that, for the 2026-2027 year, only teachers residing in Jerusalem and holding an Israeli certificate may be hired, which in effect excludes Palestinian teachers living in the West Bank.

Main objection (in French for now)

The closure lasted a single day and was lifted after part of the permits were renewed: the event that the 5 September update had classed as “new” has largely been resolved.

The text (World English Bible)

for then there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be. Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.

Matt 24:21-22

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed for the Word of God, and for the testimony of the Lamb which they had. They cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, Master, the holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” A long white robe was given to each of them. They were told that they should rest yet for a while, until their fellow servants and their brothers, who would also be killed even as they were, should complete their course.
