In short

The announcement. Jesus, in the Gospel of Matthew, announces a distress so great that there has never been anything like it, with false christs and false prophets, and says that those days will be shortened for the sake of the elect.

What happened. This has not happened yet. In the text, this distress follows the abomination in the holy place, and the signs in the sun, the moon and the stars come “immediately after”.

What is still debated. we do not know whether this distress corresponds to the whole 42-month period of Revelation, nor whether it could begin gradually and only be recognized after the fact.

Main objection (in French for now)

Ne pas identifier automatiquement cette phase à l’ensemble des 42 mois d’Ap 11–13 : c’est une hipótesis, motivée par le problème chronologique d’Ap 11, et non un énoncé du texte.

The text (World English Bible)

for then there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be. Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.
