What is reported

On 14 December 2025, two armed men killed 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney (AP). In January 2026, the federal government set up a royal commission on antisemitism and social cohesion, led by former High Court judge Virginia Bell. Its public hearings ended in late August 2026: about 14000 people gave evidence, in person or in writing; the final report is expected on 18 December 2026 (AAP). According to the annual report of the representative body of Australian Jews (ECAJ), 1654 anti-Jewish incidents were recorded from October 2024 to September 2025, compared with 2062 the previous year and an average of 342 per year before October 2023. A parallel rise in Islamophobic incidents is being measured by the government's special envoy to combat Islamophobia.

Main objection (in French for now)

The rise has an identifiable, dated cause, the war that began on 7 October 2023, and the ECAJ count fell by about 20% in 2024–2025.

The text (World English Bible)
