In short

The announcement. John, in the book of Revelation, toward the end of the 1st century, announces that at the end of their testimony, the Beast will kill the two witnesses, that their bodies will lie for three and a half days in the street of the great city, then that they will come back to life and go up to heaven, followed by a great earthquake.

What happened. This has not happened yet. The text places this scene at the end of the 1260 days, just before the seventh trumpet.

What is still debated. the Beast is still active at this point in the account, which goes against the idea that its power would have ended before the sixth seal.

When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations, people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. Those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
