The announcement. John, in the book of Revelation, toward the end of the 1st century, announces that when the seventh seal is opened, heaven falls silent for about half an hour, then seven trumpets are given to seven angels and fire from the altar is thrown onto the earth.

What happened. This has not happened yet. In the account, this seal follows the sixth seal and the sheltering of the 144,000, and it opens the series of the seven trumpets.

What is still debated. some see it as simply another name for the seven trumpets, whereas it is treated here as a separate transition stage.

When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. Another angel came and stood over the altar, having a golden censer. Much incense was given to him, that he should add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne. The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand. The angel took the censer, and he filled it with the fire of the altar, then threw it on the earth. Thunders, sounds, lightnings, and an earthquake followed. The seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves …
