In short

The announcement. John, in the book of Revelation, toward the end of the 1st century, sees a lamb open the first of seven seals: a rider on a white horse, with a bow, receives a crown and goes out “conquering, and to conquer”.

What happened. This has not happened yet. It is the first scene in a series of seven seals opened one after another, and the text does not say which moment in history it corresponds to.

What is still debated. we do not know what this rider represents: a conquest or a gradual influence is one possible reading, without designating a person or a single event.

Main objection (in French for now)

Ne pas affirmer « arc sans flèches » : l’Apocalypse mentionne l’arc, elle ne dit rien de l’absence de flèches.

The text (World English Bible)

I saw that the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a voice of thunder, “Come and see!” Then a white horse appeared, and he who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.
