The announcement. Jesus, in the Gospel of Matthew, and the apostle Paul, in his letters to the Thessalonians and the Corinthians, announce that at the sound of a trumpet the dead will rise, the living will be changed and the faithful will be gathered from the four corners of the world.
What happened. This has not happened yet. In Matthew, this gathering follows the visible coming of the Son of Man, and in Paul it takes place “at the last trumpet”.
What is still debated. these three passages are strongly alike, but no verse says that they describe exactly the same moment, nor that they announce a rapture before the great distress.

The text (World English Bible)
He will send out his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Matt 24:31
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God’s trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.
1 Thess 4:16-17
Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.
1 Cor 15:51-52
