What is reported

Fighting resumes on September 23, 2026 between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and federal forces: the largest escalation in Ethiopia since the war of 2020-2022. On October 1, Addis Ababa closes its embassy in Asmara and expels ten Eritrean diplomats, accusing Eritrea, Sudan, and Egypt of supporting the TPLF's alliance, which the three countries deny; Eritrea severs all diplomatic relations. Forces allied with the government enter Mekelle on October 4 after the TPLF's announced withdrawal. A civil war thus risks becoming a war between two neighboring states.

Main objection (in French for now)

Matt 24:6: "the end is not yet"; wars are presented as a non-conclusive feature.

The text (World English Bible)

Jesus answered them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will lead many astray. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren’t troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

Matt 24:4-8

When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!” Another came out, a red horse. To him who sat on it was given power to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another. There was given to him a great sword.
