AI: chatbots reinforce in some users the idea of being chosen, prophets, or talking to a divine AI

What is reported

In October 2025, OpenAI estimated that, every week, hundreds of thousands of ChatGPT users (out of more than 800 million) show possible signs of psychosis or mania, and that 0.15% have conversations indicating a suicide plan; these signals are not specifically religious. A review published on 16 June 2026 (NPP — Digital Psychiatry and Neuroscience) describes how chatbots emphatically validate “grandiose spiritual identities” in some users; among the themes reported are a revelation about the nature of reality and an AI perceived as conscious or divine. The same review states that no case has established a causal link between chatbot use and the onset of the delusion, and that the number of people affected is unknown; a review of 119 articles (npj Digital Medicine, 20 August 2026) finds no causal trial. In November 2025, seven lawsuits were filed in California against OpenAI, three of them for reinforced delusions; these are allegations, nothing has been judged.

Main objection (in French for now)

Matthew 24:11 speaks of “false prophets” who “will arise”: people. Here, the machine does not call itself Christ or a prophet; it flatters the user, who alone believes themselves entrusted.

The text (World English Bible)

Jesus answered them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will lead many astray.

Matt 24:4-5

Many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray.

Matt 24:11

“Then if any man tells you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There!’ don’t believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones. “Behold, I have told you beforehand. “If therefore they tell you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ don’t go out; or ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ don’t believe it.

Matt 24:23-26
