In short

The announcement. The prophet Joel, in the book of Joel, announces wonders in the sky and on the earth, blood, fire and pillars of smoke, then a sun turned into darkness and a moon turned into blood.

What happened. This has not happened yet. The text places these signs before the coming of the “great and terrible day of the LORD”.

What is still debated. nothing allows the “pillars of smoke” to be identified with a nuclear weapon or a specific modern technology, and any identification of this kind is speculation.

Main objection (in French for now)

Ne pas identifier automatiquement « colonnes de fumée » à une arme nucléaire ou à une technologie moderne précise. Toute identification de ce genre est SPÉCULATIVE.

The text (World English Bible)

“It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. And also on the servants and on the handmaids in those days, I will pour out my Spirit. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth: blood, fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. It will happen that whoever will call on the LORD’s name shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the remnant, those whom the LORD calls.
