In short

The announcement. In the book of Daniel, the prophet Daniel is ordered to seal the book "until the time of the end": then "knowledge will increase," and "those who have understanding will comprehend."

What happened. The text does not say when the book will be opened, only "until the time of the end." Already fulfilled, in progress, or still to come? Readings differ: it is for you to judge.

What is still debated. some see in it today's explosion of knowledge and travel, but that is a hypothesis, which rests partly on a Hebrew word that can be translated in two ways. For others, the time of the end is that of a persecution in the 2nd century BC, under the Greek king Antiochus IV.

Main objection (in French for now)

Le « temps de la fin » de Daniel peut désigner la fin de la persécution d’Antiochus IV (Dn 11:35, 40), dans la lecture critique qui date le livre du IIe siècle av. J.-C. ; il n’est pas forcément l’horizon final.

The text (World English Bible)

But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, even to the time of the end. Many will run back and forth, and knowledge will be increased.”

Dan 12:4

He said, “Go your way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined, but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
